Montreal, Monday, July 24, 2006. — It is with great pleasure that Atopia announces the official selection of On the Trail of Igor Rizzi by the Venice International Film Festival Critic’s Week (August 30 to Sept 9, 2006) and by the Toronto International Film Festival (September 7 to 16, 2006). The honour is very great since On the Trail of Igor Rizzi is the only Canadian film to be selected by the 63rd International Film Festival in Venice. The first feature length film of Canadian director of French origin, Noël Mitrani, On the Trail of Igor Rizzi stars French actor Laurent Lucas as well as Canadian actors Isabelle Blais, Pierre-Luc Brillant and Emmanuel Bilodeau. A grief-stricken and destitute French ex-soccer player has moved to Montreal, the home town of his lost love, in an effort to recapture her presence. He is haunted by the regret of never having told her how much he loved her. To earn money he accepts to kill a certain Igor Rizzi… «It’s an incredible victory that a film shot in the snow with a few friends and a few hours of film stock can find its way to Venice. I am so happy. I jumped with joy when I got the news. And of course, what an honour!» says the young director. Co-produced by StanKaz Films and Atopia Production, shot in Montreal in February 2006 with a script written by Mitrani himself, the film will be distributed by Atopia Distribution in Canada and represented by Atopia Export in the rest of the world. Atopia releases its in-house productions as well as a selection of equally insightful films, such as the coming titles Missing Victor Pellerin, Panache, Imitation, and The 4th Life to audiences across the USA and Canada. Daring and original, our films are critically-acclaimed features (S.P.I.T.: Squeegee Punks In Traffic, Jimmywork, A Silent Love). In order to give our films the richest tour, Atopia screens them at major festivals around the world, then releases them in art-house and commercial theatres. This allows our titles to garner wide media exposure prior to being launched on DVD through retailers, as well as being sold online.
