Montreal — Thursday February 7, 2008 — ATOPIA is proud to announce that Federico Hidalgo’s film, Imitation, will hit DVD shelves in Canada on February 12th, 2008!

Imitation, the new feature film from the makers of the critically acclaimed A Silent Love (2004), stars Vanessa Bauche (Amores Perros 2000), was written by Federico Hidalgo and Paulina Robles, and is directed by Federico Hidalgo.

Imitation — which recently opened at The Bloor Cinema in Toronto and The New Cinéma Du Parc in Montreal — has garnered acclaim at several prestigious film festivals over the last few months, including Cinequest, San Diego Latino Film Festival, Vancouver Latin American Film Festival and Vistas Film Festival.

Teresa, an alluring Mexican woman, comes to Montreal in search of her husband who had abandoned her in Mexico, cutting her life in two. In Montreal, she meets Fenton, a young man who falls in love with her. Fenton convinces Teresa to let him help her find her husband. In their pursuit, Teresa and Fenton criss-cross Montreal, persuading a string of comical characters to reveal clues that will finally lead them to the wayward husband. In the end, Teresa must decide whether to reveal the painful secret that haunts her.

A lively road-movie, Imitation provides a unique incursion in the hispanic community of Montreal as seen from the view point of a Mexican immigrant.

Atopia’s DVD edition of Imitation contains the following special features:

  • Alternate opening
  • Excerpt from A Silent Love by Federico Hidalgo

The film is distributed by Atopia Distribution in Canada and the US, and represented by Atopia Export in the rest of the world.
