Learn More About…

Montreal, October 20, 2010 — Sortie 67 will premiere on November 2, 2010 at the Cinema Imperial, followed by its release in Quebec cinemas on November 5. Produced by Ajoupa and distributed by Atopia, Sortie 67 stars Henri Pardo, Benz Antoine, Natacha Noël and Danny Blanco-Hall. The film is the first of its kind in Quebec, portraying the lives of youth in the Saint-Michel and Montreal-North neighbourhoods.

Sortie 67 — The Movie

“That which shapes a man is not the neighbourhood where he grew up, nor how he began his life, but his choices.” This quote sets the tone for the film that carries us off to Saint-Michel.

Sortie 67 tells the story of an eight year old bi-racial boy who sees his life turn upside down after witnessing the brutal murder of his mother by his father. Often moved from one foster home to the next, Ronald is ultimately recruited by another family, a street gang, where he dwells in a life of crime and violence. Against all odds, he decides to take control of his destiny. A series of awakenings to more humane values lead him to change course, despite the unequivocal risk of losing the only family he’s ever known. But leaving St-Michel won’t be so easy.

Jephté Bastien — The Director

Jephté Bastien studied editing and production at LaSalle College in Montreal and photography at Collège Montmorency in Laval. His theatrical training at the Academy of Acting in New York led him to enroll in Leon Marr’s “Créer la vision du réalisateur” workshops. He studied scriptwriting with Brigitte Soriol. Bastien also has several short films accredited to his name (i.e. Hope Station, The Babysitter, Frontière de peau, La Peste du siècle and Haiti Through My Eye.) The lens through which he filters the world is one of feeling and emotion. His deep commitment to the form of cinematic expression led to a level of understanding that has allowed him to open his own window onto the medium.
